Winter storm warning in effect for:

City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park
15 to 25 cm of snow and occasional blowing snow are expected.

Snow will continue to develop in west-central Alberta and will slowly push to the north and east eventually making it's way to Edmonton by Friday morning. Snowfall, at times heavy, will continue for most of central and southern Alberta Friday and Saturday. By the time snow ends on Sunday, 15 to 25 cm of snow is expected to have fallen. In addition, the snow will be accompanied by strong easterly winds which will generate reduced visibilities in blowing snow, especially over open areas and along exposed highways.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
